After Batman gave him the beating of his life, however, the homeless army turned on Blackfire and killed him. He even begged Batman to kill him in order to turn himself into a martyr symbol for his followers. Batman confronted Joseph Blackfire who was ready to die. After searching the whole sewers, Robin (Jason Todd) was shot. The media even showed videos of people being killed by executioners like the Middle Ages. He decided to tell all remaining citizens to leave the city. The Governor asked for federal aid and declared Gotham City a disaster area. The National Guard, capable soldiers, went down to the sewers and were slaughtered. The citizens who refused to join were gunned down by the homeless, brainwashed troops. The people of Gotham were in total panic when Blackfire's army attempted to take over Gotham. However, the drug used in his brainwashing was tricky as it had severe after/side effects that made it difficult to track Joseph Blackfire. He found himself being updated by Robin ( Jason Todd), and goes on the hunt for Blackfire. However, soon Batman was able to overcome the brainwash condition. Thus, he became one of Blackfire's lackeys. An influence that was heavily ingrained.īlackfire was able to capture Batman, the Dark Knight and brainwashed him with a drug. This mission would conclude with taking over Gotham City as the ultimate means to rid the City of it's criminal influence. Using the city sewers as their home and base of operations, Joseph Blackfire led the army to a rebellion against crime, being a religious leader as he was. He amassed an army consisting of Gotham City's homeless and including a few people reported missing. Years afterward, Blackfire formed a group of followers. Only a few were left when one witness said 'A naked man was walking away from the area.' Major Story Arcs Batman: The Cult The people who found him began to mysteriously disappear. Blackfire's body was found sometime later (days) by the Dutchmen. He is a Native American shaman who was entombed alive for killing a tribal chief and committing heresy. BLACKFIRE BATMAN PC
The biggest question after the show(s) was: why is it 30fps on Xbox Series X and Series S and not 60fps? With Starfield being the center of the Xbox 2023 Showcase last week, Bethesda gave us a deep dive into one of the biggest games this generation. This is easily one of the best Batman stories every told. While everyone clamors to read Year One and The Long Halloween, comic fans should take the time to pick up Batman: The Cult. This is Starlin and Wrightson at their finest. This is certainly his strongest performance, one last hoorah before death. Interestingly, The Cult also features Jason Todd as Robin and is most likely the only Todd trade outside of A Death in the Family.
BLACKFIRE BATMAN FREE
This is Batman at his lowest and it takes a good 50 pages for him to recover even after he's free of the cult. Batman has rarely been pushed to these limits and it's refreshing to see that it's not some hokey plot involving people from Bruce's childhood. There's perhaps a bit too much reliance on talking head news reports that look and feel too similar to The Dark Knight Returns, but overall this is a well-told mini-series. The Cult is a brutal, dark story, but it's absolutely enthralling. But those are just the hardcore unable to accept the truth - Batman murdered a man while under the influence of a cult, incapable of controlling his actions or trusting his own senses.
However, the murder is shown in such a fashion to one could argue Batman didn't actually do the killing. The dying man then changes to look like James Gordon and finally the truth is revealed. Armed with a machine-gun and hallucinating, Batman opens fire on what he thinks is the Joker.
After all, how could anyone doubt Deacon Blackfire? The controversy comes, in part, from the murder - the one Batman apparently commits. It takes time, but Batman comes to agree with that position. Blackfire preaches justice, speaks the same message as the Batman, but says that brutality is the only way. Starlin makes certain we catch every moment of Batman's indoctrination into the cult, for the explanation of how Batman's will is being worn down to the Dark Knight's vivid hallucinations.
